Shooting for The Lot

I posted a script to the Utah Screenwriters Group to get some feedback. I'm thinking of directing it to submit with my application for the reality show On The Lot.

One of the lines I like from the script:

MANNY
Put down the gun. I’m not armed and
you’re not a killer.

DYSON
Yeah, but I am armed and you are a
killer, so we’ll keep things the way
they are.

Good lines! I'll have to check out the full script.

I'm searching for places to get feedback from? Can you recommend any? I usually use Simply Scripts but i want/need as much feedback as possible.

I do read and enjoy this blog often. Hope you don't mind me stopping by.

I am the writer of 'Death Rides The Nine'. A short film made in your neck of the woods.

Good luck with everything.

Hi Christopher. I saw 'Death Rides The Nine'. I thought it was funny and very original. I liked the scene where Satan and God were holding auditions for the Grim Reaper position.

I'm a firm believer in having your script read by a close group of people whose opinions you trust. They can be other writers and filmmakers, or they can just be your Uncle who likes to watch movies. I think every writer has to build up that network so you know you are going to get some feedback that actually helps you.

I also participate in a couple of groups. One is the Utah Screenwriters Group. Another is Triggerstreet.

With larger, organized groups, you don't know exactly who is going to read your script and offer feedback, but it's a great way to meet a few more people and hopefully build up some relationships and add a couple of people to your permanent group.

I think it's also important to let people know what you need in the way of feedback. Sometimes you have something specific that's bothering you and you clue in your reader so they can help you come up with a solution.

It's also perfectly fine to have a couple of readers in your circle that don't do anything but tell you how brilliant you are. Some writers say they don't need anybody to stroke their egos, but I think we all need it from time to time. You just have to know what you need at the moment and choose your reader accordingly.
